Abstract

This article aims to analyze and compare radical thinking according to Islam
and Christianity. Radicalities in religion arise because of the frequent occurrence
of terror in the name of religion, especially Islam and Christianity. This condition
requires a solution to create inter-religious harmony by understanding the nature
of radicalism. Understanding this matter is crucial because many view radicalism
as a thought or ideology that leads to violent acts such as terrorism. The type of this
research is literature studies, using critical analysis and comparative methods, where
the majority of the data are collected from journals and books. The result found that
radicalism has positive and negative terms from both religions. In Islam, the word
radical is interpreted as a root. This implies religious people as the people with
deeply-rooted religious teachings. However, if a radicality becomes a movement, it
will turn into violence. On the other hand, in Christianity, radicalism is understood
as an act that causes someone to love Christianity so that they do good deeds by
imitating the personality of Jesus and obedience to the revelations he brought.
Meanwhile, from a negative perspective, it is interpreted as acts of violence carried
out by certain groups in the name of religion.
