Abstract

In essence, the freedom to choose whether to be a believer or a disbeliever is the sole authority of man himself. Even in religion, it must be based on faith and full awareness of the teachings of the religion it embraces. This article analyzes Sayyid Qutb's view of religious freedom in the Tafsîr Fî Zhilâl Al-Quran. The method used is analytical descriptive with thematic interpretation as its approach. It was found that the first, that the freedom of religion according to Sayyid Qutb is very strict, because the nature of Islam itself is based on the verses of the Qur'an which explains the relationship between those who do not follow Islam with those who follow another religion, so established Islam as the last law of relations between the Muslims and those who don't follow Islam. Second, religious freedom in Islam is that there is no coercion in religion. Third, in general, the Mufassirs interpret the verses of freedom in religion, which also means to act fairly and to be good to others. That good relationship applies to all religions. It shows tolerance and the relationship that is meant to be a boundary of Mu’amalah relationship, not Aqeedah and ‘Ibadah.
