This study aims to analyze the symbolic meaning and shifting values in the Mandi Belimau Potang Mamogang ritual in Pelalawan Regency. This tradition is a cultural practice of the Malay community that functions as a form of self-purification in welcoming the month of Ramadan. This study uses a qualitative method with an interpretive approach referring to the thinking of Clifford Geertz, with data collection techniques through interviews, observations, and literature studies. The analysis was conducted using a thick description approach to understand the symbolic meaning in ritual practices. The results show that Mandi Belimau has a symbolic meaning as a form of self-purification as well as a means of strengthening social solidarity and cultural identity. However, in the modern context, a shift in values has occurred, marked by a transformation of meaning from a sacred practice to a more open social activity. This change is influenced by modernization, globalization, and social media, which shape new perspectives, especially among the younger generation. This difference in perspectives indicates a process of reinterpretation and identity negotiation in society. Thus, the shift in meaning cannot be understood as a loss of values, but as a form of cultural adaptation so that traditions remain relevant in contemporary life.
